Department of Botany

About

The Department of Botany was established along with the establishment of college in 1977. The area of Botany department is 269 Sq. mt and has 2 laboratories. The department has a number of specimens models, slides and charts. This makes teaching easy and also effective. The department has advanced audio visual aids like slide projector, OHP, LCD projector. As a part of learning, students are exposed to recent literature available from the periodicals of the college library. Such information of the new arrivals are displayed on the notice boards. Important articles from newspapers and magazines are also displayed on the departmental notice board. Regular tests, seminars are been arranged. Special efforts are taken in order to prepare students for viva-voce at the time of practical exams and interviews.

Visit to local institutes are arranged every year for the students. The institutes visits include a seed farm, National Research Centre for Onion and Garlic (NRCO&G), Poly Houses, Potato Growing field, medicinal plants, forest areas, nurseries and some industries. The department also arranges study tours to various forest areas and coastal region.

The scientific films on plant, animals and their behaviors, environmental awareness are shown on LCD Projector, this helps student a better understanding of the actual conditions of life in nature and ecological interactions, life histories and other aspects.

The department also organizes various state level seminars on Biodiversity to encourage students and popularize botany (Biology) at the graduate level. The department is well furnished and well equipped with the sophesticated instruments. The students are being given guidance and counseling for their placement in various industrial, administrative, and academic sectors.

The teachers of the Department regularly attend the state level, national level and international seminars, conferences, workshop and symposiums along with the Orientation and refresher courses to update their knowledge for effective teaching. Botanical garden is well maintained by the department with shade net house and medicinal plants.

The objective of the Department of Botany has been to impart quality education to students at Senior levels.
